Tanana Valley State fair

Fairbanks is another big spread out city designed only to be accessed if you drive. Lots of walking to take in a farmer's market and the Tanana Valley State fair. I was particularly impressed with the big cabbage competition. See the pic below.....it's a whopper!

It was an odd mixture of country show with livestock and best scone competition and candy floss, pop corn, fair ground rides and street meat vendors. This attracted a real cross section of visitors from all walks of life. Lots of military from the near by base, knit your own muesli brigade and trailer park trash. The fair clearly has an equal ops entry policy.

The blue bin that the cabbage is sitting on is the size of a wheelie bin back home!
